Google releases Gemini AI-powered video presentation App

Google has started the widespread rollout of its Gemini AI-powered app, Vids, a tool designed to simplify video presentation creation through AI-driven prompts. Vids leverages Google’s Gemini AI model to streamline content creation, making it accessible for users to quickly turn written content into visually engaging videos without the need for extensive video editing skills.

Key Features of Vids

Vids offers several core AI-enhanced features to automate various elements of video production, including:

  1. Auto-Inserted Stock Footage: Vids can automatically add relevant stock footage based on the user's input, eliminating the need to search for visual assets manually. The AI assesses the prompt, identifies the context, and seamlessly integrates fitting video clips.
  2. AI-Generated Scriptwriting: The app can generate entire scripts based on brief prompts, enabling users to focus more on ideas rather than the technicalities of writing. This can be particularly useful for content like training modules or product demos, where consistency and clarity are key.
  3. AI-Generated Voiceovers: With Gemini’s text-to-speech capabilities, Vids creates natural-sounding AI voiceovers, which can narrate the generated script, bypassing the need for users to record their voices. This feature is especially useful for companies that need quick, professional narration for instructional content or internal announcements.
  4. Integration of Existing Media: Users can upload relevant documents, slides, pre-recorded voiceovers, and video clips directly into the app’s timeline, which Vids then processes into cohesive presentations. This feature enables businesses to repurpose existing materials, saving time and maintaining branding consistency.

Versatile Use Cases for Businesses

Google markets Vids as a versatile tool suitable for various corporate applications:

  • Customer Support: Transform static support articles into engaging videos, making them more accessible and easier to understand for customers.
  • Employee Training: Create training videos quickly, ideal for onboarding or upskilling employees.
  • Company Announcements: Turn traditional text-based announcements into dynamic video presentations, helping teams stay informed.
  • Meeting Recaps: Summarize meeting notes or slides into digestible videos for team members who could not attend.

Rollout and Language Support

The Vids app is initially available for Google Workspace organizations, though some features will be limited. For example, Google notes that certain high-demand features, such as “Help me create” and AI voiceovers, may have usage caps beginning in 2026 to manage server load and maintain performance.

Currently, Vids supports multiple languages in the user interface, but key AI features like the Help me create function and the read-along teleprompter are available only in English. However, Google’s expansion plans may include adding support for additional languages as the AI capabilities are refined.

Availability Timeline

The rollout for Vids began on November 7, 2023, and is expected to take approximately 15 days to become available to all eligible Workspace users. However, some users may experience slight delays as Google completes the rollout.

Looking Forward

Vids demonstrates Google’s commitment to integrating AI into everyday workflows, especially in business settings where effective communication is critical. By automating tasks that traditionally required specialized skills, such as scriptwriting and voiceover recording, Vids could empower more users to create professional-quality content without extensive resources. Google’s ongoing improvements to Gemini AI also suggest that new features and expanded language support could be on the horizon, making Vids an increasingly versatile tool for businesses of all sizes.
